Test production issue of racecard navigation

The first instinct of many punters when it comes to marathon handicap chases is to avoid the topweights and look to those down the bottom of the handicap. The idea being the the further a horse has to run the more weight matters.
However, these races are still handicaps and while those with more weight to carry might be more exposed, they are the ones with the proven class and my first port of call is always going to be with ability.
For that reason entirely I reckon it's worth having a close look at the three horses at the head of the weights for the Coral Welsh Grand National at Chepstow on December 27, especially as recent history tells us that they nearly always go close.
Last year Iwilldoit and Monbeg Genius finished in the frame under welter burdens, the year before four of the only five finishers were at the top of the weights and in 2023 numbers one and two on the racecard finished second and third. Elegant Escape and Native River were both winners of the race carrying huge weights in the last ten runnings, too, so it certainly shouldn't be a surprise if Intense Raffles, Stellar Story or Haiti Couleurs were to win.

Il Etait Temps, on the other hand, looked superb in the Tingle Creek and is now around the 3-1 mark for the Queen Mother Champion Chase.
